As a young man he was briefly involved with Sinn Féin having been recruited by Séamus Costello who went on to found the IRSP and the INLA. Since 2010 the Irish painter Brian Maguire has worked in Juárez Mexico creating work in response to the proliferation of deaths that have followed in wake of the Mexican drug war. His early projects were with paramilitary groups in Ireland from both sides of the conflict.
